The author writes about the simplicities of life and death from the viewpoint of a rustic roadmender. The book attained enormous popularity in its day and 31 editions were published in 10 years. The endpapers are illustrated in black and white. Spine faded, corners and spine bumped, side edges uncut, edges tanned, inscriptions to half-title page and endpaper, otherwise good copy for its age.
